Liz Wheeler Biography

Liz Wheeler all smiles

Elizabeth Theresa ‘Liz’ Wheeler was born on July 12, 1989, in Cincinnati, which is situated in the U.S. state of Ohio. She was, however, raised in Sharonville, which is located in the same state. Her father owned a small business, and her mother was a housewife. She grew up alongside her siblings, including a brother and three sisters.

From a young age, Wheeler developed her ideas and interests, particularly in the field of politics. She had a passion for understanding political matters and actively sought out knowledge in that area.

Even during her high school years, Wheeler’s dedication to politics was evident. She began writing blogs and gained recognition with her blog titled: Erring on the Side of Life. This early experience in sharing her views through blogging laid the foundation for her future career as a conservative political commentator and author.

Wheeler is currently an American conservative political commentator, author and podcast host. She gained prominence as the host of Tipping Point with Liz Wheeler on One America News Network (OANN) from 2015 to 2020. Wheeler’s show was known for its distinctive finale segment called “Final Point,” where she delivered powerful closing arguments on various political topics.

Liz Wheeler career

Liz Wheeler in the sun

Wheeler’s professional journey commenced in 2012 when she took on the role of a commissioner for the Board of Zoning Appeals in her hometown. She assumed this responsibility at a remarkably young age, and it demonstrated her passion for public service and civic engagement.

In 2013, Wheeler, a young conservative, collaborated with 13 other like-minded individuals to co-author a book titled: “Young, Conservative, & Why It’s Smart to Be Like Us.” This compelling work gained significant traction and soared to the second position on Amazon’s coveted Civics Books List.

Building on her growing influence, on October 26, 2015, Wheeler made a notable entrance onto the media landscape as the host of “Tipping Point with Liz Wheeler”, the primetime talk show on the One America News Network (OANN). The show aired on weeknights and provided a platform for Wheeler to articulate her conservative views and engage with a broad audience.

Her television show elevated her to become an influential figure in the Conservative circles. In 2016, she was invited to speak at the prestigious Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC). She also frequently appeared as a speaker at events organised by the Young America Foundation, and this further amplified her influence among young conservatives.

Recognising her remarkable rise in conservative media, Politico, the leading political publication in the U.S., profiled Wheeler in 2018 and acknowledged her as a “titan” alongside influential conservative figures, such as Ben Shapiro, Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, Mark Levin, Tucker Carlson and Dana Loesch. In the profile, Wheeler expressed her motivation for being a vocal political commentator, noting her concern that society is increasingly substituting faith and family with the government.

In 2019, Wheeler published her first book, “Tipping Points: How to Topple the Left’s House of Cards.” The book, published by Regnery Publishing, explored her perspectives on dismantling progressive ideologies. It gained attention when former U.S. President Donald Trump publicly endorsed it and urged his followers to provide positive reviews and support.

However, Wheeler’s career has not been without controversy. In a 2018 segment on OANN, she propagated a false claim by suggesting that a proposed California bill sought to ban the sale of Bibles. This assertion was later debunked by fact-checkers.

Wheeler’s credibility was called into question on multiple occasions. In a May 2020 segment on OANN, she made baseless allegations that the mainstream media had fabricated a surge in COVID-19 cases following the 2020 Wisconsin Spring election. Fact-checking organisations, such as PolitiFact, refuted her claims and noted the absence of evidence supporting her assertions.

Wheeler also courted controversy for her strong criticisms of the Black Lives Matter movement as she denounced protesters as “trained Marxists”. Such divisive remarks further contributed to the polarising nature of her media presence.

In September 2020, Wheeler announced her departure from OANN, leaving behind a platform that had served as a springboard for her career. However, her departure did not diminish her determination to influence public discourse.

In a January 2021 video titled: “Fauci lied to you AGAIN,” Wheeler made misleading claims about Dr. Anthony Fauci, COVID-19, and the effectiveness of face masks. FactCheck.org exposed the inaccuracies in her statements, revealing that she had mischaracterised Fauci’s actions and distorted scientific findings regarding face mask efficacy.

In a June 2021 episode of “The Liz Wheeler Show”, the political commentator made a false claim that a “peer-reviewed, scientific study” demonstrated that the COVID-19 vaccine caused two deaths for every three lives saved. This claim was flagged by Facebook as misinformation, and further investigation by PolitiFact revealed that the study, published in the MDPI Vaccines journal, had issued a notice raising serious concerns about the conclusions just two days before Wheeler’s episode. The notice explicitly stated that the author’s assertion that the deaths were caused by vaccination was “incorrect and distorted”, and this undermined the credibility of Wheeler’s claim.

Wheeler’s penchant for promoting misleading information continued in March 2022 when she falsely asserted that the hepatitis B vaccination administered to newborns was both unsafe and unnecessary unless the mother was infected with the hepatitis B virus. She further claimed that the vaccine failed to prevent infection by the time vaccinated individuals became sexually active. These claims disregarded the overwhelming consensus among medical professionals and scientific research regarding the safety and effectiveness of the hepatitis B vaccine in preventing transmission.

In January 2023, after an American football player, Damar Hamlin, collapsed, Wheeler propagated a conspiracy theory that the COVID-19 vaccine was responsible for a supposed “surge” in athletes’ deaths and injuries. This theory lacked any substantial evidence and ran counter to expert opinions and rigorous scientific studies regarding vaccine safety.
