RIGGINS, Idaho (KBOI) — A 35-year-old Riggins man is presumed to have drowned after his vehicle crashed into the Salmon River on Monday.
The Idaho County Sheriff's Office says deputies were called out to Highway 95 after a witness heard reports of hearing tires squeal and saw taillights into the river. Rescue crews worked throughout the night, but weren't able to find the vehicle until 8:30 a.m. when it was found upside down.
The vehicle was recovered from the river, but police say Derek L. Olson is believed to have been swept out of the vehicle.
Family members have been notified and police are continuing to look for Olson's body.
