Preparing young learners for kindergarten can be daunting, especially for new parents.

But, the earlier you begin, the better you can prepare.

And the Idaho Association for the Education of Young Children is there to help through their "Ready! for Kindergarten Program."

"Ready! for Kindergarten divides their program into five age levels, there are newborns, one year olds, two year olds, three year olds, and four year olds," Project Director Hailey Michalk explains. "Parents attend workshops three times a year at a school or a library and they get tools to support all of the milestones their children will be going through and specific age level resources to be able to play and have fun while learning with their little ones."

Each workshop provides free learning resources for families.

Subjects covered range from language and literacy to math and reasoning, even social and emotional health.

This cumulative program is designed to begin at birth and continue through age five.

Providing interactive resources and workshops for parents.

The program is sponsored in part, by CapEd Credit Union.

"CapEd has been a partner of IDAEYC for many years, and we couldn't do what we do without their support," shared Executive Director for the IDAEYC, Beth Oppenheimer. "You know one of the best things CapEd does is they bring together partners from across the state who are really focused on improving early childhood education and families, all with an eye toward literacy."

Workshops are offered in both English and Spanish as well as in person and virtually.

They also host parent workshops that teach parents how to "play with purpose" and turn everyday activities into learning exercises.
