Kansas City Chiefs placekicker Harrison Butker‘s career is in jeopardy following his alleged misogynistic and sexist comments last week. An online petition was created demanding the expulsion of the 28-year-old by the NFL team.

Butker, who considers himself a devout Catholic, was one of the guest speakers at the Benedictine College commencement ceremony in Kansas on May 11.

He started by highlighting individuals in power who commit heresy despite being Catholic. As a result, the age-old religion is on the brink of collapsing.

However, people were outraged when he claimed that women had been lied to by society. Those who prefer taking a job should reconsider their choices, advising them to get married and lead a simple life as someone’s wife.

Butker’s words drew a lot of flak from the section that doesn’t believe in his philosophy. They condemned the apparent backward ideas and statements of the three-time Super Bowl winner. An outcry poured in throughout social media, trying to understand how a man can be so misogynistic in 2024.

We are now at over 50,000 signatures! @buttkicker7 had no right to attack others. There are always consequences for your actions. Everyone has a right to believe what they want but no one has the right to push hate because of their own insecurities. https://t.co/KaHjsztudV https://t.co/0y8stm53G9

A man named Williard Gene Harris started a petition on Change.org demanding the expulsion of Harrison Butker from the Kansas City Chiefs. Since its creation, more than 76,000 people (close to 55,000 signed it in one day) have signed it, supporting Butker’s removal from the NFL team.

A counterpetition was started in support of Harrison Butker

While one side wants Butker to pay for his statement, another sees nothing wrong. Their point of view is that Butker was giving a speech at a Christian religious institution, which was well within the boundaries of the doctrine.

More importantly, every citizen has the right to speak their mind according to the Constitution of the USA.

They argued, Why should a man lose his career for making his voice heard? So a counterpetition was created on the same platform in support of Butker by social media personality Jon Root. Unlike its counterpart, growth has been slow for Root’s proposal.

The Chiefs have yet to comment on the ongoing fiasco. Their hands remain full since winning another Super Bowl. From Kansas City shootings to second-year wide receiver Rashee Rice almost losing his life in road rage, they can’t seem to catch a break.

More importantly, the NFL released the schedule for the 2024 season. Even though Andy Reid‘s team is 16th in terms of fixture difficulty, their first two games are against the Baltimore Ravens and the Cincinnati Bengals.
