BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) — With the first football home game looming, Boise State athletic director Curt Apsey says season ticket sales are down this year. They are at around 93 percent of their goal - from around 21,000 last year to about 19,500 this season.
"I'm not going to lie we are a little bit behind but we are not giving up," Apsey said. "Hopefully the excitement of this year and the first game against Washington State on Sept. 10 will continue to generate sales."
Would expanding the stadium help or hurt ticket sales? Apsey says growth needs to coincide with dollars for it to makes sense.
"The conversation is always had about expanding the stadium," he said. "We have to find ways to expand our stadium in a way that fits what we can do here and set it up with the opportunity to have some revenue coming in to help pay for it."
Boise State has expressed interest in jumping from the Mountain West Conference to the Big 12 Conference. Apsey says the Big 12 has not asked the school to make a presentation.
"We have not been contacted to do that," he said. "As you probably know there is not much I can say about that. We are just honored to be in the conversation and if there is a time we need to make a presentation we will be ready."
And when it comes to a prosperous athletic department, there are a lot of priorities but to Apsey, there isn't one that trumps the others.
"We are always going to talk about expansion of facilities and adding new sports and all the things we can do for the department to make it better," he said. "I don't know if there is one thing at the top but there is a lot at the top."
